Honestly, what you’re doing here feels a lot like a modern Beowulf hall.
In the poem everyone sits around the fire telling the old stories, and that’s kind of what this community has become. People gathering to remember a deeper world our ancestors took for granted. No wonder Beowulf hits so hard right now. It feels like the culture is finally ready to hear those older tales again.
I thank YOU for expanding my knowledge. I first met you in Twitter as Culture Critic, liked your writings, and when you mentioned this page, I entered it. You were my first subscription in Substack. Today, besides others, I also have added The Ascent.
This account is actually how I ended up on Substack and started posting my poetry for the 1st time since I was a teenager. A nice little ripple effect.
I find this publication to be the perfect combination of well-chosen topics, a unique approach, and excellent writing. I haven't come across many Substack publications that meet all three of these criteria. The topics are also well aligned with my interests, which is an added bonus!

Thanks so much Justi. Seriously looking forward to the Beowulf sessions.

As a culturist, do you have any interesting references to topics other than old school Western European Christianity?
