Thank you for this article. For myself Mozart has always been "too much," until I learned that this is no background music. His music is the kind of music that you listen to with closed eyes and your full attention. Only then I came to appreciate it.

There is a nice joke about Mozart: When Mozart died, God personally revealed to him that he had composed such beautiful music that he was allowed to sit right next to him in heaven. He was, of course, very pleased, but also a little surprised, and asked: “But... what about Johann Sebastian Bach?” To which God replied: “I am Bach.”

No chamber music? By the way, have you ever heard his String Quintet in G minor? Arguably one of the greatest pieces of chamber music ever written. Not to mention other quartets of his.

What a wonderful article! I play the violin myself since I was 5 years old and wasn’t a big fan of Mozart until my 20s. Symphony 25 is also my favourite piece from Mozart too. I actually got to appreciate this particular one when I first watched Amadeus and every so often I enjoy playing it while at home.

For fellow Mozart lovers well beyond Mozart 101, check out this little-heard yet beguiling gigue he wrote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcKtnEXhwbI

Hard to believe that he had such an unattractive nose based on other paintings of him.
